Ole Miss - Is this the season that Ole Miss pulls a Ole Miss? You know, the I come out of no where and have a good season and actually beat a few teams that I'm not suppose to. I'm gonna say this now so its on record. I'm picking Ole Miss last in the West, But here is a big but. I think they could finish as high as 3rd. Shocking I know. Of the new coaches entering the league this is the one I want you guys to keep your eyes on. Hugh Freeze is a solid guy who is virtually unknown. The offense that he brings will give some teams a few fits. When he was at Arkansas S.T I thought he done really well with what he had. Now moving to the SEC things are obviously different but that doesn't necessarily mean he will struggle. If you ask me to pick a coach that's coming into this league that will have the most long term success I think im taking this guy. Offensively they do have some guys. They just haven't had a reliable QB in a couple of years, and as most of you know, this is a QB driven game. It's simply the difference in winning games and losing games. I think defensively they have to be better then last season. Every week these guys were getting torched up and down the field. Experience does matter and I think these guys will come out and play a more sound fundamental game defensively then what they showed last year. Again i know you are probably tired of hearing this but since these guys play in the west, the schedule is tough. I think Texas needs to watch out when they come to town on the 15th of September. It just has " that feel " to it, know what I mean? I do think that they can make a bowl. But I also know that they could be another year away from really getting things back where they belong. For now, lets just say a success = 6-6. Sound good Rebel fans?

Did I not tell you guys that Mushead was in over his head? I was right on all accounts. This years team is actually much better than last years team. Why? Defense. I personally think this is a top 3 overall defense in the country. The DL is flat out nasty. The LB's and Secondary is quick and can get to the ball very fast. This Defense actually may be the quickest in all of college football. One huge problem with this team. QB. When I watched this team last year I seen zero QB play, NONE!! The reason im not picking Florida to win the east by a landslide is because of this offense with no QB. I just dont see any eye popping players on offense. I think that the game between you guys and Georgia should decide the east. Right now the edge goes to Georgia because they have all the things I think that you dont on offense. @ Tennessee @ A&M early will really tell you alot about this team, Why? Because they dont have to play hardly any road game all year. WTF!! @ Tennessee on Sept 15th is it until Nov 24th. Wow can somebody please check the schedule makers!! My goodness, can you say favorable schedule? Oh yeah BTW..... you still haven't left the state of Florida to play a out of conference game since 1990. You wonder why I have gave you guys a hard time.

There aren't many coaches that wouldn't have been in over their heads with what little numbers were on the roster the first year, you will really be able to tell what kind of HC Muschamp is over the next two years. Now the numbers are back and there is nice depth especially on the front lines with experience, which is a must in this conference.

One of the best defensive lines in the country IMO.

Look.... It was IMO, easy to see what was going to happen last year to Florida. Some thought other wise. Some also thought that Weis was gonna come in and kick some behind. Some also thought that they were in a better situation then they were with the previous staff, I never thought that. To be honest I dont think Mushcamp ever deserved that job nor do I think he still is qualified to have it.

We talked about this last year wit him. I personally dont think that Florida was a place for a first year HC to go learn. Thats why we have Bowling green and Buffalo and teams of that level. Remember this now.... When dabo Swinney was hired I said this is not the place for a first year guy to go. But I also said that since he was a terrific recruiter and excellent at talent analysis he would " grow into the position " . He has. He has made great decisions with the hiring of Chad Morris and Brent Venables. Now question is...will Muschamp " grow into " the position. I think this year is crucial for him. I know its only his second year....but again I say understand this. This is not your " rebuilding type program " there Florida, they dont have to wait. Ole miss and teams like that can.

Texas will not take ole miss for granted...this will be statement game of Big XII v SEC...Ole Miss will come off a DD win over UTEP the week before and be feeling good about themselves...then they play the real University of Texas, one that will come off a 40+ over hapless NM...I have capped the spread to be about 18...I will probably pass on the Wyoming and nm games...but I have targeted the Ole Miss game as being a game where Texas with superior talent, 2nd year of new schemes on D and O, better QB play, shut down D, and motivation by M Brown to show the "Heart of Dixie" SEC conference and all of the HS recruits in Texas considering SEC schools that we play ball in Texas... the SEC schools can open up weekly cans of whoop behind on the deserter Napoleon Complex Aggies for the next 5 years, the Longhorn Nation does not care...

Maybe. You obviously know more about your school then me. But as someone from the outside looking in.... I just cant see Texas scoring 35 points on the road against anybody. Their offense was the worst offense Ive seen maybe in my lifetime for a big time program. It would be hard to see a huge turn around on offense that much. Maybe.... time will tell.

it may not be prolific this year...you have a Boise State offense in its 2nd year (Harsin), with perneial top 5 recruiting offensive talent, a toughening of the OL which got soft over many years of complacency and poor coaching (M Brown stuck with his "friends" too long; the nightmare of 2010 finally ended that).  You have to understand that Texas is still recovering from the gross incompetency of former OC Greg Davis (now the OC at Iowa).    Last year, after Gilbert was benched, we had two rookie QB's (both 3 star players), everyone was learning a new O.    I think Texas will follow Bama's model of run first, use the passing game to keep opponents from stacking the box, and run roughshod over inferior teams, while playing solid D.  Like Steele pointed out, how many teams have the #1 RB ranked HS Recruit in 2011 - Brown and the #1 RB ranked HS Recruit in 2012, on the same team and maybe in the same backfield on the same play?     I think with Gilbert flaming out, Harsin was not able to implement even half of the playbook.   Now with a spring, I think Ash will be the starter.   You will see a lot of misdirection, with high percentage moving the chains to compliment the running game.   We have Jordon Shipley's brother Jaxon set to start.  Some say he may be better than his brother.   cosby and shipley masde C McCoy a 3rd round pick.  They caught everything.  Last year our WR's sucked and did not do much to help the young QB's.  I think you will see a different Texas O this year.  That is why Steele has us as his #1 surprise team.  Everyone knows about our D, but like you from an outsider's perspective, the perception is weak.  That is why the Ole Miss game will be a big focus for Texas.   Granted, Ole Miss is not an elite SEC team, but it is SEC.  If we beat Ole Miss as bad as LSU, and Bama and UGA do, then, there is a metric there and potentially some new found respect from members and fans of the best conference in college football, the SEC...

Well he started off last off season by letting Weis go and finding the perfect fit for UF as an OC. The defense was never going to be my worry under Muschamp and it will continue to get better, he has LOADED up in recruiting there.

I know Ole Miss pretty well... they win 3-5 games this year... Texas will get ugly... Manny Diaz's D will destroy that offense... much like it did the year he was at MSU... Ole Miss will be better this year, but this is a learning and growing up year for them

The BIG 10

Leaders

Wisconsin              11 - 1   BC         8 - 4 WC
Ohio S.T                 10 - 2  BC         8 - 4  WC
Illinois                     10 - 2  BC         7 - 5 WC
Purdue                    8 - 4   BC          6 - 6 WC
Penn S.T                 8 - 4  BC           6 - 6 WC
Indiana                    6 - 6  BC           3 - 9 WC

Legends

Michigan                11 - 1  BC          8 - 4 WC
Michigan S.T          10 - 2 BC          7 - 5 WC
Nebraska               10 - 2 BC          7 - 5 WC
Iowa                       9 - 3 BC           7 - 5 WC
Northwestern          8 - 4 BC           6 - 6 WC
Minnesota              6 - 6 BC           4 - 8 WC

I want to say that I think the Big Ten this year is without question the second best conference in the Country and their will be a ton of parity. Alot of pretty good teams in this league. A few to watch out for that is under the radar. Ohio S.T, Illinois, Purdue and Iowa. We all know that Michigan, Michigan S.T and Wisconsin are already good and need no extra mention.

Wisconsin - I dont have to tell you guys what the Badgers are gonna do this season. It's what they do every season, run the damn ball. Why not? These guys are the best at it IMO. They go out and find these big cornbread fed kids who push people around and compliment that with great running backs. Montee Ball is great by the way in case you dont know. He only had 39 td's last year and 33 of them on the ground. In case some of you dont know, these guys are the best at counter and off tackle in the game. They run that garbage all the time and nobody can stop it. Big question in Madison is who will take the snaps? Will it be Danny Obrien? I think it will but I will say that he had some problems last season. I think it was more to due with maturity then anything else. I think this team has all right pieces to win another big ten championship. Actually there probably one of the most underrated national title contenders coming into the season. Here is another huge thing these guys have going for them. The schedule. @ Nebraska boys, that's pretty much it. They do play a few other road games but none that pose a threat IMO. Maybe @ Penn S.T the last game of the season but still I just dont see it. I know they go to Corvallis the second game of the year and historically it's a tough place to play, but still, I just dont see it. Im telling you guys to watch out for Wisconsin, this could be the year they sneak into the NC game. Also something worth mentioning is, If the SEC gets another team into the NC game. Wisconsin is the last team a Alabama or LSU would like to see. Why? Because they know Wisconsin is the only other team that can line it up and run it straight down their throats.

up next.............  THE___Ohio S.T

Ohio S.T - Sweater vest out, winner in. Through the last several years no team in college football played more scared and more passive then Ohio s.t. I hated Tressel. IMO he was a coach who played not to win. Why in the world would any coach play the way he did with some of the athletes he had? Seriously, Pryor was a unstoppable 6'5 QB who repeatedly was a non factor in games. Watching the Arkansas game 2 years ago in the sugar bowl was the worst coaching job Ive seen in my lifetime. If you dont know what im talking about just go watch the first half and then watch the second, mind boggling. All of those things that I just said are exactly the opposite with Meyer. Meyer is a winner and a good teacher of the game. Now I think were about to see Ohio S.T use their athletes like they should. Braxton Miller has alot of talent guys. The kid really reminds me alot of Pryor at the same stage. These smaller backs like Jordan Hall are going to flourish in this offense. I think the receivers are also going to look better in this offense in where they actually get to catch the football. Defensively this is the most underrated defense in the country. I'm telling you right now dont be surprised to see this group in all the top defensive category's come end of the year. A very solid experienced defensive line that can handle the run game really well. Here is a name that most of you dont know, Everette Withers. He is a very good defensive mind who will instantly make a impact with all the defensive and especially the LB's, very good pick up. I know these guys aren't going bowling but that doesn't mean this will be a team that will let you down. This staff is preparing these guys to win the NC next season and need positive momentum from this season to do just that. I think they can win every game on the schedule, there that good. Obviously @ Michigan S.T, @ Wisconsin and home to Michigan are all games that will be extremely hard to win, but I still think there good enough to do it. I think a 9 or possibly 10 win season isn't out of the question.

Illinois - Here is another team that I will have my eye on this season.  I really like the hire in Tim Beckman. I think this guy isn't afraid to play the game with a little edge. His Toledo team really played well under him and I expect Illinois to a improved football team. This is one of those teams that has all the right pieces to it to win some big games and challenge the other contenders in this league. Nathan Scheelhaase seems like he's been there for ever now this only his 3rd year, he actually has another year after this one. I like running back Donavon Young, I think the guy is a speedster and alot like the backs at Ohio S.T, I think he fits really well into this new offense. Tons of players on both sides of the ball with experience and I suspect this team to compete in every game they play this year. If these guys didn't have a brutal schedule away from champaign, I think this could be a real contender. @ Arizona st, @ Wisconsin, @ Michigan ( back to back ) and @ Ohio S.T are all really tough hurdles to overcome and will be what eventually takes this team down. Overall I think we need to look at this group as a 7 or 8 win team but with lots of potential and the ability to be in every game they play which means what for us? A very good team against the spread.

Back to what Boom Boom was saying about Mike Leach.... If you ESPN clones can't realize this guy is one of the ten best coaches in college football year in year out then you're disqualified from commenting on college football predictions. The guy's not just a great coordinator, but a leader of a program that turned T Tech into a contender for more than just one season. Pay attention to the numbers, not what Craig James wants you to

Mike Leach is not just a good coach. He's a GREAT coach.

Boom -

At the risk of sounding like a cheerleader, thank you for the write up on the Illini ... I had no idea but, you're right, I'll be paying a lot more attention to them this year.  Also, don't know casheasy immediately above but he/she is correct (and I know you agree): Mike Leach is a great coach.... Wazzou will outperform while he is there  ....

UCLA is also a good team this year to play every week - standard ( or half) bet all year long -- I guarantee they will be above .500 ATS when its all over; very good recruited talent, new coach (enthusiasm); jaded public/perception....  They will cover more than they won't .....
