#7 Posted: 8/30/2011 10:45:55 PM Probably older than you but I listen to plenty of new stuff.
Has nothing to do with the fact I think Lil Wayne is talentless. |

Or any of them. Lil Wayne isn't the Jesus of the rap world, but the man has more talent than most people now or in the past. He has been featured on OVER 3,500 tracks total other than his 7-800. There's a reason.
I'd love to hear some examples of this "old school 'real' rap" Suckitup mentions. I've been listening just as long and a lot of the old stuff is talentless gayzie r&b type weak garbage.

Ya Lil Wayne is so talented that he didnt even write any of the materail on THA Carter 1. Go look up Gillie da kid and read some articles where he talks about Wayne. He ghostwrote all that album and has gone on record saying that Wayne is a fraud.
Listen to someone like J Cole, Kendrick Lamar or Big K.R.I.T if you want to listen to really talented rappers. |

I like all types of music and by no means is rap my favourite genre but my favourites would be Biggie (no one is close to him), Tupac, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Eric B. and Rakim, early LL Cool J, early Snoop (can't believe the crap he's put out recently), Wu Tang Clan, Public Enemy, NWA, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Black Sheep, KRS - One, Digital Underground......just off the top of my head........real garbage. |

#12 Posted: 9/3/2011 12:48:49 AM I have been in the music industry for 16 years and worked at def jam ( as an intern 1st then did 3 years in promotion and a&r) moved to universal and then to sony. So basically i can look at what everyone is saying here and ad an objective opinion to it.
to say lil wayne is talentless is the most ridiculous thing i ever heard and to compare him to old school rappers makes no sense. Its like comparing beyonce to patti labelle or nickelback to aerosmith. Music has to change with the times and the 80's was way different. Hip hop was more about partying and having battles. since the 90's it has been more commercialized and popular.
2 me the best rappers impact wise and talent wise were
1. biggie
2. pac
3. jay
4. em
and after them u can choose from a long list of rakim lil wayne big pun kool g rap among others.
as big a numbers as wayne has put up million sales wise eminem done that twice and way bigger and wayne can never be as big as eminem. but is bigger then anyone else right now sales wise including jay and kanye.
as far as classic albums wayne has none and cant compare to
ready to die - big life after death - big all eyez on me - pac the imfamous - mobb deep illmatic - nas enter the 36th chambers - wu miseducation of lauryn hill - lauryn hill
but his records are hot none the less.
He has done a tremendous job to improve in the last 10 years from where he started with a crazy delivery and knack to switch up his style and adapt to any track.

#13 Posted: 9/4/2011 5:09:51 PM Wow.....you're in the music industry and you can't compare Beyonce to Patti Labelle and Nickelback to Aerosmith?
I can do that quite easily and I've never worked in the music industry.
I do like your list of classic albums though. |

#14 Posted: 9/5/2011 12:08:04 PM i was comparing them as a point of emphasis that u cant compare people from back in the day and now cause its just not the same!
