I get the feeling they are very content to just sit on their recent Cup victory and live on that success. They really are lacking a solid forward who can snipe on the PP. Marc Savard...although not a great goal scorer...could make that key pass on the PP to set up goals. Right now...their PP is pretty poor.
With Thomas waiving his no trade clause...they could certainly trade him to a bottom feeder who needs to make the low end of the cap and if he sits out they don't even have to pay him. Then...that could free up some money for a top 3 forward.
I know Seguin is progressing and Dougie Hamilton looks to be a real potential star...but lets face it...they needed an all world performance by Thomas to win that Cup and to think they can do it again without going out and trying to upgrade seems a little far fetched to me.
But...I get the feeling from listening to Chiarelli they are content with what they have. I hope not.
Hope everyone is having a great summer and I sure hope we can get next season started on time.

Teams would be smart to improve through trades. There is nothing in FA.
I assume they are banking on Seguin to really just take it to a whole new level which he probably can.
You want Kaberle back to improve that PP?
Its funny. They keep trying to adress their PP problems with puck moving defensemen but both Kaberle and Corvo were pretty much complete busts for them. I am not so sure the problem is on the D. They seem to work the puck to the D more than down low. I would like to see them trade for someone who can bury the puck.
My main point is that I don't think they can afford to stand pat. I would move someone like Krejci or even Lucic along with Thomas to bring in a top forward. Krejci and Lucic are inconsistent. I know I will get some flack from B's fans for saying that about Lucic but he dissapears for long periods of time.

Luck or not...I don't really care. That cup run was incredible. I think to win the Cup you need to get lucky along the way. Maybe the Kings luck this year was getting into the playoffs.
I just want to see a more proactive approach to getting better. Like in business...if you don't constantly push to improve and better your product...you will be passed by other competing companies. I hate to hear things like "We are happy where were at". They should be aggresively looking to get better.

You can't win the cup every year. Luck or not.
There's a reason why teams have to wait 30-40 years to win one.

The Bruins big move was to sign Claude Julien to an extension. Boy...this looks like a complacent organization. I don't see them being any better than last year unless Seguin makes a huge jump and Dougie Hamilton becomes a rookie phenom.
The Rags improve with Nash...the Habs got a lot tougher and the Flyboys sure up their D. The Bruins management seems to still be basking in the glow of their Cup.
The Bruins could have moved Krejci...Thomas and a draft pick to be in the Nash discussion. Their lack of a sniper is going to come back to haunt them again next post-season IMHO.

how have you been boo? 1 seguin i feel is a strong candidate to make a huge jump,at worse a large favorite for steady improvement,2 it is hard for a d-man to be a rookie phenom, but hamilton looks great to me, i was very dissapointed when snow passed on him with the 5 pick, briuns will not have a problem contending once again as is, and they did not do anything stupid to hurt them long time.dose not mean they are sleeping rather than looking for a more intelligent option, that is more possible during the course of the season or possibly the deadline, i wouldnt worry to much this early, enjoy the rest of the summer, see you in october!

Hey Denis. Good to see you. I am dabbling in baseball a bit but have not really posted because I am not around that much in the summer with kids...vacation etc.
I just don't see them as addressing their big need...the PP scoring and that will up and kill you in the playoffs when everything is tight. I think Rask will be as good as Thomas was last year which is a solid number one but not elite. But you are right...now the pressure is squarely on his shoulders. I think he will be fine.
Lets just hope they play in October right now. Take care my friend.

I know what you mean about Lucic he seemed to be completely worn down this past postseason. If his conditioning is not there he is a very useless player, it's only when he skates like he did in 2011 where he makes an impact.
Krejci in my opinion should be untouchable though. He creates so much and is great at keeping puck possession which is huge for a team that generally dumps it in and chases. They look horrible whenever Krejci is injured.
Horton's health will be huge because we were great with him in the lineup last year. The Bruins need to get a top 10 dmen with offensive talent and just more speed. I think they have enough talent in the top 6 with Horton Krejci Seguin Marchand etc. They just need some more speedsters to create more open ice chances with the turnovers they create from their great team D. Even if the speedy players are not the greatest finishers just their presence alone would make a big difference.

Please don't say lucky. That team was one of the most mentally tough teams I have ever seem and being able to persevere through 3 game 7s in series where things were not always so pretty is a sign of a great team not a lucky coincidence that happened 3 times.
That 2011 team will always have a special place with me.

I haven't been following these youngsters too much. I know Dougie Hamilton is a big defenseman but is he a good skater and offensively gifted player that can bring the puck up on the rush or is he more of a defensive stalwart with a big shot?
Boo do you think Caron will be ready to take on a top-6 role. He improved a lot last year, if he could be good enough to become a top-6 player then Krejci could be expendable? Maybe this is why they want to wait an additional season to make a FA/trade splash.

Dougie Hamilton is from all accounts has a damn good chance to eventually take on a prime role on their PP. He is big...has a heavy shot and is a strong skater. I am looking forward to seeing him in camp.
Jordan Caron has a lot of talent but we have only seen glimpses of it. He has what it takes IMHO to be a top 6 forward but I don't think its this year. He still has some work to do on his game and being more consistent.
When Krejci is motivated he is top notch (i.e. playoff performance). But if you look at his regular season night in/night out games he seems to take a lot of nights off. I know he has been in the dog house with Julien on several occasions for that.

About Puck luck: every team gets it but it is all timing and Bruins had a guy in net that got hot at the right time and the rest of the players fed on that too. thomas could stop a golf ball and when he was on the rest were on...
