Disney have signed up Spider-Man director Sam Raimi to helm the film, after also considering the likes of American Beauty favourite Sam Mendes and musical specialist Adam Shankman. While the movie is a prequel, it is also being adapted from the book that spawned the original, L Frank Baum's iconic 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
