#1 Posted: 5/4/2012 9:17:43 PM I usually don't feel sorry for any of these guys when they get hurt. I mean I'm not like celebrating it but I'm just like "hey for ten million/yr ill blow my knee out every year." Nothing negative, just these guys have such fabulous lives that a little dose of reality doesn't bother me. However, this one hurts. I used to be a HUGE Yankee fan and still am a big fan but just not 24/7 like I was ten yrs ago before I had my kid and blah blah blah.
Mariano Rivera to be is a friggin icon, a legend, one of the most incredible just godlike figures of my life. I remember Derek jeter saying, "he's not the best closer I've ever seen, he's the best pitcher I've ever seen" and that's how I feel. The guy was just so smooth, so dominant and one of my favorite things is his demeanor on the mound. From the way he comes in out of the pen and is just completely unfazed by anyone or anything. He's not confrontational so to speak but he's as intimidating as they come because you know you can't faze I'm. The guy blew game 7 of the W.S. and trotted off the mound like it was nothing. Not cuz he didn't care, just cuz he knew nobody's perfect, and without that blown save he almost was/is perfect. I have a picture of him staring into the plate and its just a look of absolute focus.
What I'm getting at is I'm really sad that his probable last season just went down like this. Yeah he might come back and I know if he does he'll be awesome but it just breaks my heart (as happy as that sounds coming from a man) to see this happen to this legend.
Maybe I'm just rambling but the Guy means a lot to my sports life, if that makes any sense. Mo rivera |

#3 Posted: 5/4/2012 9:26:49 PM And that says a lot about you to say that about a legend that's been nothing but a class act. Would lay -1000 odds you're a very unhappy guy in your own life and that's where this comes from. Fix yourself, don't trash icons |

You know I never really lose to much sleep over some of these over paid players getting hurt. Yesterday however was a new experience for me I felt like I just had my heart broken as well. You invision a super star of his calabor going out on his own terms not by injury. This one really hurts and I almost feel like I got cheated of a perfect ending to this story. I guess I learned to appreciate him everytime he entered the mound his last couple of years win or lose.
MO Thanks for all those saves, innings you put in and most important thanks for the class man..
Your going to be missed for a very long time from a die hard fan...
