Devils 7, Blues 1: Defenseman Eric Gelinas and Damien Brunner paced a balanced attack with a goal and two assists each as host New Jersey thumped St. Louis.
Blue-liner Mark Fayne, Adam Henrique, Ryan Carter, Ryane Clowe and Jaromir Jagr added goals in the Devils' highest-scoring effort of the season. Cory Schneider made 26 saves as New Jersey ended its two-game losing streak.

Alex Steen scored the lone goal for the Blues, who suffered their worst loss of the campaign. Brian Elliott was removed after allowing three goals on nine shots and replaced by Jaroslav Halak, who made 10 saves the rest of the way.

Just 24 seconds after Fayne opened the scoring on a fluttering shot from the top of the faceoff circles at 2:27, Carter made it 2-0 as he waited out a fallen Elliott before lofting a high backhand shot into an open net. Steen's first goal since returning from a groin injury at 8:47 halved the deficit, but Jagr restored the two-goal advantage 1:40 later as he redirected a centering feed from Reid Boucher past Elliott with his left skate.

Clowe added to the onslaught 1:03 into the second period with a one-timer from the left side of the net, and Henrique made it 5-1 at 15:42 with a great individual effort he finished off by firing a shot into the top corner of the net from close range. Brunner scored New Jersey's third straight power-play goal 1:18 into the third and Gelinas capped his three-point night at 12:04 with a slap shot from the blue line that caromed off Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and past Halak.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Henrique did not play in the third period. No reason was given for his absence. ... Jagr's goal was the 697th of his career, moving him within 11 of Mike Gartner for sixth on the all-time list. ... Elliott has surrendered six goals on 30 shots over his last two appearances. ... Brunner was playing in his first game since Dec. 20. He missed 14 contests with a sprained knee.
