Recap

Devils 2, Panthers 1 (OT): Defenseman Marek Zidlicky scored on a one-timer at 4:57 of overtime as New Jersey edged visiting Florida.

Travis Zajac won a faceoff back to Jaromir Jagr, who slid the puck to his left to set up Zidlicky for a blast from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat a screened Tim Thomas for his eighth goal. Jagr's assist was his 1,724th career point, moving him past former Pittsburgh teammate Mario Lemieux for seventh place on the all-time list.

Michael Ryder scored for the fourth straight game and Cory Schneider made 29 saves for the Devils. Nick Bjugstad scored his ninth goal and Thomas turned aside 34 shots for Florida, which is 3-1-2 in its last six contests.

Ryder recorded the only goal of the first period, stationing himself in the slot to knock home Ryane Clowe’s tap pass from behind the net at 15:22. Bjugstad tied the game with 8:06 left in the second, going to the net to redirect Tomas Fleischmann’s pass over Schneider.

Thomas stopped all 11 shots he faced in the second period, making big saves on Jagr and Adam Henrique prior to Bjugstad’s tally. Schneider and Thomas were outstanding in the third session, each making 13 saves to send the game into overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Former Devils RW Krys Barch, D Mike Mottau and C Scott Gomez all were scratches for Florida. … NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who was born in Newark, N.J., dropped the ceremonial first puck and was a guest zamboni driver before the game. ... Jagr saw his goal-scoring drought reach nine contests despite registering a game-high five shots.
