Recap

Ducks 3, Capitals 2: Rookie defenseman Hampus Lindholm scored with 5:36 remaining in the third period and visiting Anaheim erased a two-goal deficit to extend a club record with its ninth straight victory.

Andrew Cogliano scored for the first time in six games while Saku Koivu registered his second goal in four contests and added an assist as the Ducks won their sixth straight road game and improved to 10-0-2 in their last 12. Jonas Hiller made 17 saves to win his seventh straight for Anaheim, which leads the NHL with 59 points.

Mikhail Grabovski scored for the second straight game while red-hot Nicklas Backstrom recorded his third goal and 15th point in his last seven contests for the Capitals, who lost for the third time in four tilts. Rookie Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves while Troy Brouwer had two assists.

Grabovski finished a give-and-go with Brouwer at 7:21 of the first period and Backstrom rifled a shot off the short-side post that caromed into the net off Hiller's back side on the power play 4:16 later. Cogliano cut the lead in half when he picked up a loose puck after a scramble in front and lifted it into the empty net at 17:15 of the session.

Anaheim tied it with 26.7 seconds left in the second period as defenseman Ben Lovejoy carried the puck behind the goal line and swept a pass in front to Koivu, who beat Grubauer high to the glove side. Lindholm, who also assisted on Koivu's goal, picked up a rebound in the high slot and slid a shot through a maze of players into the net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau returned to Washington for the first time since being fired as Capitals coach on Nov. 28, 2011. Boudreau, who was hired by the Ducks two days later, won the 2007-08 Jack Adams Award with Washington while compiling a 201-88-40 record and winning the Southeast Division four times. ... Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who leads the NHL with 30 goals, hit the crossbar with 3:09 left and had his four-game goal streak snapped. ... Washington C Brooks Laich returned after missing 11 games with a groin injury and played 13:03 while going 9-4 on faceoffs.
