Recap

Penguins 4, Red Wings 1: Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and set up two others before leaving with an apparent leg injury as Pittsburgh contributed to Detroit's woes at home.

Captain Sidney Crosby tallied twice and defenseman Olli Maatta added a goal for the Penguins, who have won eight of their last nine games. Jussi Jokinen notched two assists and Jeff Zatkoff made 28 saves.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored and Jonas Gustavsson stopped 21 shots for the Red Wings, whose winless streak reached four contests (0-2-2) as they began a four-game homestand. Detroit fell to 5-7-6 in its own building.

The Red Wings got off to a good start as Kronwall scored at 6:09 of the first period, but the Penguins took over three minutes later as Crosby grabbed a loose puck near the right post and tucked it in during a power play to forge a tie. Malkin made it 2-1 with 7:10 left in the session, burying a loose puck in the slot while on another man advantage, and Maatta got credit for his second goal when the puck caromed off Drew Miller's skate and into the net with 47 seconds remaining in the second.

Crosby capped the scoring with 5:27 to play in the third, accepting a pass from Joe Vitale and beating Gustavsson from the slot for his 18th of the season. With the two goals, Crosby raised his league-leading point total to 46.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Malkin exited midway through the second period with an apparent head injury but returned, only to leave for good early in the third after crashing feet-first into the end boards. Malkin, who has 41 points, was favoring his left leg while being assisted off the ice by two teammates.... Penguins D Deryk Engelland received a match penalty with 30 seconds remaining in the first session for delivering a shoulder to the head of Detroit LW Justin Abdelkader, who left the game and did not return. ... The Red Wings have lost four of their last five home games and are 2-6-6 in their last 14 at Joe Louis Arena.
