Recap

Bruins 3, Rangers 2: Captain Zdeno Chara scored to snap a tie with 8:55 remaining in the third period as host Boston defeated its Original Six rival for the second time in 11 days.

Brad Marchand matched Chara with a goal and an assist and Patrice Bergeron also tallied for his first point in seven contests. After equaling his career high with 43 saves in a 2-1 victory over New York on Nov. 19, Tuukka Rask turned aside 17 shots as the Bruins improved to 9-2-1 in their last 12 games.

Rick Nash and defenseman Ryan McDonagh scored 1:22 apart in the first period and Henrik Lundqvist finished with 25 saves for the Rangers, who have dropped four of seven after winning seven of their previous nine.

After Bergeron forged a 2-2 tie at 1:35 of the third period, Chara gave Boston its second lead of the contest exactly 9 1/2 minutes later. The towering captain unleashed a blast from above the circles that glanced off the glove of Lundqvist before reaching the net for his sixth goal.

McDonagh gave New York a 2-1 lead with 5:34 remaining in the first period after his wrist shot from just above the left circle sailed inside the near post. Bergeron knotted it up after his shot from the right circle was denied by Lundqvist, but the puck caromed off Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi and into the net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston opened the scoring with 8:18 left in the first period after Chara wired a backdoor seam pass from the outer edge of the left circle to Marchand, who one-timed a shot from the right circle past Lundqvist. Nash answered 1:22 later after fending off Bergeron while skating into the slot before muscling a shot inside the left post. ... Chara, who stands 6-9 and 255 pounds, got the better of New York C Brian Boyle (6-7, 244) during a spirited fight in the second period. ... Bruins D Dennis Seidenberg returned from a four-game absence with a lower-body injury, which he suffered on his first shift against New York on Nov. 19.
