Recap

Hurricanes 3, Ducks 2 (SO): Chris Terry scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as Carolina completed its season-high five-game homestand with a 4-0-1 mark.

Riley Nash banked a shot off both the post and Viktor Fasth's back in the first round before Anaheim's Corey Perry beat Justin Peters (28 saves) between the pads in the second. Captain Ryan Getzlaf hit the post on the Ducks' third attempt before Terry beat Fasth under the crossbar to end the contest.

Captain Eric Staal scored a power-play goal in regulation, Drayson Bowman also tallied and defenseman Andrej Sekera notched an assist for his 100th career NHL point for the Hurricanes.

Perry scored his team-leading 12th goal, Dustin Penner added a power-play tally and Getzlaf notched an assist in his return from a three-game absence due to an upper-body injury. Fasth turned aside 21 shots in his first start since Oct. 16 for the Ducks, who fell to 0-2-1 following an 8-0-1 stretch.

With the contest tied at 1-1, Bowman skated around Ducks defenseman Bryan Allen and beat Fasth from in close at 3:01 of the third period. Penner answered 4:17 later as he got enough on a one-timer - despite snapping his stick - to beat Peters to the glove side before tossing the shattered pieces into the air to celebrate.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Perry snapped a scoreless tie with exactly two minutes remaining in the second period. Getzlaf intercepted Carolina D Justin Faulk's pass before feeding Perry, who beat Peters up high. Staal answered by tipping Alexander Semin's shot past Fasth after the latter used Ducks D Francois Beauchemin as a screen before shooting from the left faceoff circle. ... Carolina LW Jeff Skinner missed his ninth consecutive game with an upper-body injury and RW Radek Dvorak sat out the contest against his former team with a lower-body ailment. ... Ducks RW Daniel Winnik left the contest in the first period after taking a puck in the mouth area on a shot by Carolina D Ryan Murphy. He returned midway through the second wearing a partial face shield.
