Recap

Islanders 4, Penguins 3: Josh Bailey scored to snap a tie with 1:40 remaining in the third period as visiting New York exacted some revenge after getting bounced by Pittsburgh in the first round of last season's playoffs.

Matt Moulson collected his fourth goal in three contests and Frans Nielsen and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored 1:09 apart during a frenzied third period. Captain John Tavares notched an assist to extend his point streak to nine games and Evgeni Nabokov finished with 39 saves for the Islanders, who won for just the second time in seven contests (2-3-2).

Captain Sidney Crosby scored on a 2-on-1 rush in the second period and Jussi Jokinen and Deryk Engelland also tallied. Jeff Zatkoff finished with 21 saves in his second start for the Penguins, who have dropped two in a row after winning seven of their previous eight games.

After Bouchard netted his first goal of the season to forge a 3-3 tie, Bailey gave the Islanders their second lead of the night. The center broke his stick in the defensive end and picked up another from the bench before rejoining the play and converting on the latter of his two chances for the game-winning goal.

With the contest tied at 1-1, Crosby accepted a feed from Chris Kunitz to start a 2-on-1 rush. The captain skated into the right circle and wristed a shot under the right arm of Nabokov at 5:59 of the second period. Nielsen redirected a shot past Zatkoff at 12:46 of the third before the teams tallied again just 53 seconds apart.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh D Kris Letang made his season debut after suffering a knee injury on Sept. 27. He played over 25 1/2 minutes and registered three shots on goal ... The Penguins failed on all five of their power-play opportunities after going 0-for-7 with the man advantage in a 1-0 loss to Colorado on Monday. ... Zatkoff was blitzed for six goals in his other appearance - a 6-3 setback to Florida on Oct. 11.
