Stars 2, Capitals 1: Alex Chiasson snapped a tie with 7:53 remaining in the second period and Dallas held on to extend its home dominance against Washington.

Erik Cole also scored and Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves for the Stars, who improved to 10-0-2 in their last 12 home meetings with the Capitals.

Captain Alex Ovechkin netted the lone goal for Washington, which has not won in Dallas since Oct. 17, 1995. Braden Holtby turned aside 19 shots.

Ovechkin opened the scoring with his league-leading fourth goal of the young season. With Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas in the penalty box for tripping, the reigning Hart Trophy winner drilled a one-timer from the left faceoff circle past Lehtonen at 4:26 of the opening period.

Cole forged a tie less than four minutes later, taking a backhand feed by Tyler Seguin from behind the net and beating Holtby from the slot. Chiasson put Dallas ahead with his second tally of the campaign, firing the rebound of Cody Eakin's shot past Holtby during a 3-on-2 rush.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Capitals C Marcus Johansson registered an assist on Ovechkin's goal, giving him 99 career points. ... Washington was making its first visit to Dallas since Dec. 2, 2010. ... The Stars franchise improved to 24-11-10 all-time at home against the Capitals.
