Recap

Blues 4, Stars 3: David Perron recorded two goals and an assist in the second period as visiting St. Louis seized the lead and held on for its fourth win in five games to start the season.

Chris Stewart also scored in the second session as the Blues turned a one-goal deficit into a 4-2 lead with 20 minutes to go. Defenseman Wade Redden added his first goal in almost three years and Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves for St. Louis, which survived a shot off the left post by Ray Whitney with 65 seconds left.

Tomas Vincour, Michael Ryder and Ryan Garbutt scored for Dallas, which was without the injured Jaromir Jagr. Cristopher Nilstorp made 25 saves in his second career start before leaving with an undisclosed injury with 7:41 remaining in the contest.

Perron stickhandled into the slot and whipped a wrist shot past Nilstorp to tie it 2-all at 10:51 in the second period. Stewart knocked in Patrik Berglund’s cross-crease pass at 16:32 to give St. Louis the lead, and rookie Vladimir Tarasenko stole the puck at the blue line before feeding Perron for another tally with 15.8 seconds left in the session.

Garbutt redirected captain Brenden Morrow’s pass behind Halak just 2:24 into the third to bring the Stars within a goal. Halak made half of his total saves in the period, including a big stop on a shot by Ryder during a power play with nine minutes left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jagr (back) and Derek Roy (groin) were scratched for Dallas while fellow Stars F Jamie Benn, who signed a five-year contract on Thursday, still must clear up immigration issues before he can play. … Redden’s last goal came on March 18, 2010 against the Blues while he was with the New York Rangers. …. Ryder scored his 200th career goal and Colton Sceviour had his first career point with an assist for the Stars, who have dropped four straight meetings with the Blues.
