Kings 3, Sharks 2: Justin Williams recorded a goal and an assist as Los Angeles extended its home winning streak to seven games.
Kyle Clifford and defenseman Slava Voynov also scored, Brad Richardson set up two goals and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Kings, who finished in fifth place in the Western Conference. They will face St. Louis in the first round of the playoffs.
Logan Couture and T.J. Galiardi had goals and Antti Niemi stopped 24 shots for sixth-place San Jose, which dropped three of its final four games and will take on Northwest Division champion Vancouver in the playoffs.
After a scoreless first period, Clifford got Los Angeles on the board 48 seconds into the middle session. Couture forged a tie 49 seconds later, when he skated between two defenders before beating Quick to the stick side for his 21st goal.
Voynov put the Kings ahead for good at 5:31 as his blast from the right point deflected off the stick of San Jose's James Sheppard and past Niemi.
Williams made it 3-1 with exactly eight minutes remaining in the third, when he converted a backhand pass from behind the net by Richardson. Galiardi got the Sharks within one when he took a cross-slot feed from Joe Pavelski and fired the puck past Quick from the left faceoff circle, but the Kings held on to earn a split of the four-game season series.
