Recap

Capitals 6, Jets 1:
Captain Alex Ovechkin scored twice to extend his streak to four games and Braden Holtby made 30 saves as Washington completed a two-game road sweep of Winnipeg.

Brooks Laich netted his first goal and Troy Brouwer, Jay Beagle and defenseman Mike Green each added a tally for the Capitals, who have outscored the Jets by a 13-1 margin en route to winning all three visits to Manitoba.

Ondrej Pavelec started in net for Winnipeg and allowed three goals on nine shots before being replaced by Al Montoya. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien scored the lone goal for the Jets, who have dropped three of four to remain only two points ahead of idle Carolina in the Southeast Division.

After posting a 4-0 victory on Thursday, Washington picked up right where it left off with two first-period tallies. Laich, who missed the first 28 games of the season, accepted a feed from Mike Ribeiro and went down to one knee in the left faceoff circle before putting the Capitals on the board with 7:50 remaining in the period.

Ribeiro set up Brouwer during a 2-on-1 break to double the advantage with 3:55 left in the session. Beagle scored on a one-timer from the slot to end Pavelec’s night 5:50 into the second period and Ovechkin greeted Montoya with a wrist shot from above the right circle that glanced off the far post 1:45 later. Green tallied from the right point at 1:51 of the third, but Byfuglien ended Holtby’s bid for back-to-back shutouts eight minutes afterward with a wrist shot from a bad angle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After Byfuglien beat Holtby through a screen at 9:51 of the third, Ovechkin restored the five-goal advantage on the power play with 4:02 left in the contest. The superstar collected three goals and two assists in the two-game set. … Ribeiro and C Marcus Johansson each recorded two assists for Washington. … Winnipeg D Mark Stuart, who took a hard hit from Ovechkin in Thursday’s contest, was not in the lineup on Friday.
