Wild 2, Predators 1 (SO): Matt Cullen scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as Minnesota emerged victorious in defenseman Ryan Suter's return to Nashville.
Suter burned his former team by setting up Zach Parise for a power-play goal 9:01 into the second period. Captain Mikko Koivu also notched an assist and Niklas Backstrom turned aside 24 shots before receiving help from the post on David Legwand's backhander on Nashville's final shootout attempt.
Suter was making his first trip to Bridgestone Arena since signing a 13-year, $98 million contract in the offseason. Booed every time he stepped on the ice, Suter skated along the blue line before wristing a shot on net in the second period. Parise, who was stationed in front of the net, deflected the puck past Pekka Rinne for his team-leading ninth goal of the season - and fifth with the man advantage.
With Suter serving a roughing penalty, Legwand forged a 1-1 tie at 6:28 of the third period by accepting Sergei Kostitsyn's cross-ice feed and wiring a shot under the crossbar.
Rinne finished with 28 saves for the Predators, who fell to 3-6-2 in their last 11 contests.
