Penguins 5, Maple Leafs 4 (SO): James Neal and captain Sidney Crosby scored in the shootout as visiting Pittsburgh won its fourth straight game despite squandering a two-goal lead.

Neal and defenseman Paul Martin each had a goal and an assist in regulation for the Penguins, who improved to 10-0-0 when leading after two periods. Crosby and Pascal Dupuis also scored while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 shots, as well as shootout attempts by Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri.

Phil Kessel led Toronto with a goal and two assists, Clarke MacArthur added one of each and captain Dion Phaneuf set up three tallies. Defenseman Cody Franson and James van Riemsdyk scored power-play goals for the Maple Leafs, who received a 37-save performance from James Reimer.

MacArthur scored with 5:59 remaining in the second period and Kessel tied the game with 4:20 left in regulation, but Neal beat Reimer between the pads and Crosby fired a wrist shot over the goaltender's glove in the shootout. Toronto was outshot 41-26 but held a 5-3 advantage in overtime.

Reimer struggled with rebound control early, surrendering goals by Crosby and Martin 50 seconds apart as the Maple Leafs fell behind 3-1 in the first period. Neal opened the scoring with his team-leading 16th of the season, while van Riemsdyk and Franson only needed a combined 29 seconds of power-play time to score their two goals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crosby’s goal was his 19th in 24 career games against Toronto. … Van Riemsdyk hit Penguins C Evgeni Malkin hard into the side boards in the third period. Malkin, who has played three games since missing four with a concussion, went straight to the bench after the hit and did not take another shift. … Reimer saw his personal six-game winning streak come to an end.
