Recap

Maple Leafs 4, Devils 2: Clarke MacArthur and Nazem Kadri continued their stellar play together, recording a goal and an assist apiece as host Toronto extended New Jersey’s winless streak to five games.

Phil Kessel scored his first goal at home this season and Jay McClement tied the game early in the third period for the Maple Leafs, who won for the fourth time in five home games to improve to 5-5-0 at Air Canada Centre this season. James Reimer made 28 saves for his second straight victory since returning from an MCL sprain.

Marek Zidlicky scored both goals for the Devils, who haven’t won since goaltender Martin Brodeur was placed on injured reserve with a sore back. Ryan Carter assisted on Zidlicky’s goals and Johan Hedberg stopped 19 shots to drop to 0-5-1 in his last six games.

Kadri and MacArthur, who are both on five-game scoring streaks, combined to open the scoring midway through the first period when Kadri’s centering attempt hit Hedberg’s stick and rolled between his pads. MacArthur gave Toronto a 3-2 lead on a power play in the third period after Kadri found him all alone in front of Hedberg.

McClement intercepted a careless pass by Patrik Elias in the Devils’ zone and chipped a backhand shot over Hedberg’s right pad 39 seconds into the third to tie the game after Zidlicky scored twice on the Maple Leafs’ fourth line in the second. Kessel added some insurance on a 2-on-1 with James van Riemsdyk 2:27 after MacArthur’s go-ahead goal.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto Fs Colton Orr and Frazer McLaren were benched after being on the ice for both Zidlicky’s goals. Orr finished with 3:09 time on ice, while McLaren had 3:20. … Devils F Andrei Loktionov saw his five-game scoring streak come to an end and took the tripping penalty that led to MacArthur’s goal. … Kadri has nine points on his scoring streak, MacArthur has six.
