Recap

Senators 2, Canadiens 1 (SO): Peter Regin scored the deciding shootout goal in the fifth round of the shootout and Ben Bishop stopped 44 shots as host Ottawa escaped with its fifth win in a row.

Bishop allowed one goal on five attempts in the shootout for his fourth straight victory in place of injured starter Craig Anderson. Rookie Dave Dziurzynski scored his second career goal to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at the 6:49 mark of the second period.

Defenseman Andrei Markov scored his first goal in 15 games and Carey Price made 23 saves for Montreal, which went winless in its two trips to Ottawa this season.

In the fifth round of the shootout, Regin froze Price with a fake before changing his angle and flipping the puck into an open net. Bishop stopped Tomas Plekanec’s shot to seal the win and tie a franchise record for most saves in a home victory.

Despite being outshot 21-7 at the time, Ottawa opened the scoring when Dziurzynski’s shot from the left side boards caught Price out of position. Markov tied the game on a power play with four seconds remaining in the second period with a one-timer from the point.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Markov has five goals and 11 points this season, all with the man advantage. … Overlapping penalties late in the third period by defensemen Marc Methot and P.K. Subban meant there were 21 seconds of rare 3-on-3 hockey to start overtime. … Three of the Senators’ last five wins have come in a shootout.
