Recap

Avalanche 4, Wild 3 (SO): Milan Hejduk scored the decisive goal of the shootout on his 37th birthday after recording his 800th career point with a tally in the second period as visiting Colorado snapped a three-game winless streak.

Matt Duchene, whose shootout goal ended the game after two rounds, also tied the contest in regulation while Aaron Palushaj recorded his first goal as a member of the Avalanche. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 26 shots before denying Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu in the shootout while defenseman Tyson Barrie assisted on Hejduk's goal for his first NHL point.

Parise recorded his team-leading seventh goal, and Koivu and Mike Rupp also scored for Minnesota, which recorded more than two goals for the first time in eight games. Dany Heatley had an assist to snap an eight-game pointless streak while Niklas Backstrom made 29 saves.

Hejduk beat Backstrom high to the stick side from the bottom of the right faceoff circle during a power play with 2:34 remaining in the second period to give Colorado a 2-1 lead. Rupp scored his first goal in a Wild uniform 2 1/2 minutes into the third, when he pushed Giguere's left pad and glove - with the puck in between - over the goal line to tie the game.

Just 46 seconds after Koivu scooped up a loose puck in the slot and beat Giguere with a backhand shot to give the Wild a 3-2 lead with 8:04 remaining, Duchene banked in a shot off sliding defenseman Jared Spurgeon to knot it at 3-3.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Rupp scored the first goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals when New Jersey defeated Anaheim and Giguere 3-0. ... The Avalanche remain the only team without a goal from a defenseman. ... Hejduk has played five games on his birthday and also scored as a rookie in a 4-4 tie with Philadelphia in 1999.
