Canadiens 4, Lightning 3 (SO): David Desharnais scored in the second round of the shootout and Carey Price denied all three attempts as visiting Montreal snapped its three-game winless streak despite squandering a late three-goal lead.

Defenseman P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist and captain Brian Gionta and Travis Moen also scored for the Canadiens. Price made 21 saves for his seventh victory to extend Tampa Bay’s winless streak to five.

Defenseman Victor Hedman got the Lightning on the scoreboard with 5:56 left in regulation and added another with 1:43 remaining. Defenseman Sami Salo tied it with 43.3 seconds left when his shot from the high slot hit the skate of Montreal blue-liner Raphael Diaz and trickled over the line.

The Lightning were called for five consecutive penalties in the first period and Montreal finally capitalized with a two-man advantage in the final minute. Gionta knocked home a cross-crease pass by Tomas Plekanec at the left post with 42.4 seconds left.

Tampa Bay failed on three power-play chances in the second period and Subban beat Anders Lindback (31 saves) from the right point through a screen 8:21 into the period for a 2-0 lead. Montreal extended the lead when Moen was the last to touch the puck during a scramble before it went in off Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer’s skate late in the second.

GAME NOTEBOOK: RW Richard Panik made his NHL debut for the Lightning. … The Lightning had gone 14 power-play opportunities without conversion until Salo’s goal with the goalie pulled for an extra skater. … Lars Eller had two assists for Montreal.
