Recap
Jets 1, Senators 0: Al Montoya stopped 33 shots and Alexei Ponikarovsky scored 5:57 into the third period as Winnipeg snapped a three-game road losing streak.
Montoya, who had allowed seven goals on 36 shots this season, stopped 12 shots in the first, 11 in the second and 10 in the third. The shutout was his first since Feb. 19, 2011, when he was a member of the New York Islanders.
In the third period, Ponikarovsky redirected Kyle Wellwood’s shot from the right boards over the glove of Ben Bishop, who made 36 saves in his second start of the season.
Winnipeg held a 28-23 advantage in shots after two periods. Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom was called for hooking midway through the third, but Ottawa couldn’t capitalize on Winnipeg’s league-worst penalty killing and finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage in its first regulation loss at home this season.
Enstrom and Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey each blocked a game-high four shots to help Montoya hold on to the shutout.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Winnipeg D Dustin Byfuglien missed his fifth game in a row with a lower-body injury. Byfuglien has seven points in six games. … Ottawa D Erik Karlsson, who scored in each of his last two games, was minus-1 and finished with two shots in 25:09 time on ice. … Enstrom, who leads Winnipeg with 13 points, saw his eight-game point streak come to an end.
