Panthers 3, Flyers 2 (SO): Rookie Jonathan Huberdeau and Peter Mueller scored in the shootout and Jose Theodore stopped both attempts as visiting Florida exacted a measure of revenge for an early-season lopsided loss to Philadelphia.
Theodore finished with 30 saves and Jack Skille and Stephen Weiss collected their respective first goals of the season for the Panthers, who improved to 3-0-1 following a five-game losing skid.
Matt Read netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season and sixth in as many career games against Florida. Jakub Voracek also scored and Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 22 shots for the Flyers, who fell to the Panthers for just the second time in eight meetings.
Weiss leveled the contest at 2-2 by scoring 10 seconds into the power play at 8:35 of the third period. After the game extended beyond overtime, Huberdeau used a brilliant deke to easily beat Bryzgalov before Theodore denied Read and captain Claude Giroux to end the contest.
Read, who registered his first career hat trick in a 7-1 win over Florida on Jan. 26, gave Philadelphia a 2-1 lead at 2:42 of the second period. Veteran Mike Knuble freed the puck in the crease and Read alertly lifted it under the crossbar from the doorstep.
