Recap
Bruins 2, Devils 1 (SO): Brad Marchand scored in the sixth round of the shootout and Tuukka Rask made 25 saves - plus five in the bonus format - as host Boston continued its mastery of New Jersey.
Marchand slipped a shot between Johan Hedberg's pads before Rask stopped defenseman Marek Zidlicky as the Bruins won the battle of the only two Eastern Conference teams without a regulation loss. Nathan Horton tied the game in the third period for Boston, which has won five straight over New Jersey and nine of the last 10 meetings.
David Clarkson scored a power-play goal in the second period and Hedberg, making his first appearance of the season, stopped 27 shots for the Devils. Patrik Elias, who recorded his 900th career point Sunday, had an assist.
Clarkson deflected Zidlicky's slap shot from the point past Rask's glove at 8:30 of the second period to open the scoring. It was the first power-play goal allowed by the Bruins this season after they killed their first 24.
The Bruins applied heavy pressure in the third period before Horton beat Hedberg between the pads following a 3-on-2 rush with 4:05 remaining on an assist from David Krejci, who missed a mostly open net with Hedberg lying on the ice in the first minute of overtime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: A banana was tossed on the ice and slid right in front of Hedberg as Tyler Seguin scored in the first round of the shootout. The referees made Seguin shoot again - and he promptly scored. ... The Bruins (5-0-1) are off to their best start since the 1970-71 season - the last time they secured points in each of their first six contests. ... Devils RW Matt Anderson, 30, made his NHL debut and recorded a blocked shot in 6:57. ... Bruins D Adam McQuaid was a healthy scratch after rejoining the team for its morning skate Tuesday. McQuaid was in Prince Edward Island over the weekend to attend funeral services for his grandmother. ... Krejci recorded his 200th career assist.
