Kings 3, Canucks 2 (SO): Jeff Carter scored a power-play goal in regulation and the lone tally of the shootout as host Los Angeles rallied for its second straight victory.
Defenseman Slava Voynov also scored and Jonathan Quick made 21 saves for the Kings, who went 0-for-23 with the man advantage over their first four games.
After two scoreless rounds of the shootout, Carter directed a backhander past Roberto Luongo on Los Angeles' third attempt. Hoping to extend the contest, Zack Kassian failed to convert a backhand shot, clinching the win for the Kings.
Kassian and Alex Burrows scored while Luongo stopped 26 shots for Vancouver, which went 1-1-1 on its three-game trip through California.
Kassian opened the scoring with 6:52 remaining in the first period with his team-leading fourth goal and Burrows doubled the lead at 4:05 of the second. Carter halved the deficit with 4:39 left in the second session with Los Angeles' first power-play goal this season and Voynov forged a tie with a one-timer from the right point with 43.2 seconds to go in the third.
