Recap
Blue Jackets 2, Stars 1: Vinny Prospal scored to snap a tie 1:22 into the third period as Columbus received some help from a lucky bounce to earn its first home win of the season.
Prospal’s centering attempt from behind the goal line deflected off a Dallas player’s stick and slipped between the post and Kari Lehtonen. Derek Dorsett also scored and Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves for his second victory for the Blue Jackets.
Defenseman Philip Larsen scored his first goal of the season and Lehtonen stopped 25 shots in his first loss in regulation for Dallas. The Stars are winless in their last three games and have won one of three on the road to start the season.
Larsen opened the scoring on a power play 4:13 into the second period when his wrist shot from the point fooled Bobrovsky through traffic. Dorsett tied it late in the session, finishing a crisp passing play with defenseman Fedor Tyutin and Artem Anisimov by firing a one-timer that snuck underneath Lehtonen’s arm.
Columbus outshot Dallas 17-5 in the second period but couldn’t convert on three power plays and finished the game 0-for-7 with the man advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tyutin leads the Blue Jackets with five points this season. … Stars LW Jamie Benn, playing in his first game since agreeing to a five-year contract with Dallas, cross-checked Columbus D Nikita Nikitin into the boards from behind with four seconds remaining. Nikitin left the game and Benn was assessed a minor for boarding. … Blue Jackets D Jack Johnson led all skaters in time on ice with 26:08 and finished with an assist and four shots.
