Canadiens 4, Devils 3 (OT):
Defenseman Andrei Markov scored on the power play 4:22 into overtime as host Montreal handed New Jersey its first loss.

Erik Cole drew a holding penalty and then found Markov for the game-winning wrist shot. Ryan White, Brendan Gallagher and Brandon Prust also scored and third overall draft pick Alex Galchenyuk had two assists as Montreal won its third straight game.

Patrik Elias reached 900 career points with a goal and two assists while David Clarkson and Dainius Zubrus added goals for the Devils. Martin Brodeur made 28 saves.

The Canadiens built a 2-0 lead in the first period when White backhanded a pass from Travis Moen past Brodeur and Gallagher scored on a wrist shot with 6:25 left for his first NHL goal. Elias drew New Jersey within one just three minutes into the second period when he tipped defenseman Mark Fayne’s offering past Carey Price, who stopped 22 shots.

Montreal restored its two-goal lead two minutes into the third period on Prust’s goal, but both Prust and Galchenyuk were whistled for high-sticking 2:23 later to put the Devils on the power play. Elias found Clarkson for the power-play goal and hit Zubrus with 6:58 left in the third to send the game to overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Montreal's Max Pacioretty underwent an emergency appendectomy on Saturday. He will be out 3-4 weeks. … Brodeur fell to 43-19-5 in his career against his hometown team. … Clarkson added a pair of assists and has six points in the first four games.
