Recap
Blackhawks 3, Stars 2 (OT): Marian Hossa scored a power-play goal 1:41 into overtime as Chicago capitalized on host Dallas' penalty troubles to extend its season-opening winning streak to four games.
Hossa one-timed a no-look pass from Patrick Kane over the glove of Kari Lehtonen as Stars captain Brenden Morrow was serving an interference penalty. Captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp also scored power-play goals for the Blackhawks, who were 3-for-7 with the man advantage.
Lehtonen made 38 saves while Loui Eriksson and Ray Whitney scored for Dallas, which led 2-0 midway through the second period. The Stars announced during the game that they signed restricted free agent center Jamie Benn to a five-year, $26.25 million deal.
Sharp cut the deficit to one late in the second when his centering pass went off Stars defenseman Trevor Daley’s stick and into the net. Toews tied it with 5:53 remaining in regulation, firing a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle over Lehtonen’s blocker.
Corey Crawford stopped 21 shots for his third win of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Sharp assisted on both of Chicago’s other goals and has six points so far this season. … The Blackhawks outshot Dallas 18-8 in the second period. … Dallas rookie C Ryan Garbutt led all Stars skaters with five shots, but was denied by Crawford on a penalty shot.
