Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 3 (SO): Rookie Damien Brunner scored in the fourth round of the shootout as Detroit rebounded after a lopsided loss to spoil Columbus' home opener.
Pavel Datsyuk collected a goal and an assist, Ian White scored and fellow defenseman Brian Lashoff did the same in his NHL debut as the Red Wings rebounded from a 6-0 loss to St. Louis.Playing in his second NHL game, Brunner ended the contest after dragging the puck across his body and tucking it just outside the right pad of an outstretched Sergei Bobrovsky.
Vaclav Prospal and defenseman James Wisniewski scored power-play goals in the third period and Atkinson converted a breakaway in the second. Bobrovsky turned aside 39 shots for the Blue Jackets, who posted a 3-2 shootout victory over Nashville on Saturday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League earlier on Monday, Lashoff opened the scoring after wiring a shot from the point which caromed off Bobrovsky and into the net. Lashoff was playing in place of D Jonathan Ericsson, who injured his shoulder while stepping on a puck in Sunday's practice. Detroit RW Patrick Eaves returned to the ice for the first time since November 2011. Eaves was sidelined with a broken jaw and concussion versus Nashville. ...
