Recap

RANGERS 3, SENATORS 2:
Derek Stepan collected his first points of the series with a power-play goal and two assists as visiting New York scored three times in the second period to force a Game 7 in its Eastern Conference quarterfinal with Ottawa.

Brad Richards scored, rookie Chris Kreider netted his first NHL goal and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 25 shots for top-seeded New York, which hosts the deciding contest Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

After Chris Neil deflected defenseman Sergei Gonchar's point shot to open the scoring in the first period, Stepan leveled the contest 8:55 into the second with his first goal of the series.

Richards wristed a pass from the right faceoff circle to the doorstep. Stepan was able to get his stick on the initial feed before he tucked the puck past Craig Anderson with a second effort.

Richards gave New York a 2-1 lead after he skated into the right faceoff circle and blasted a shot past Anderson during a 5-on-3 power play.

Kreider capped the second-period uprising by scoring with 41 seconds left. Stepan skated below the goal line before wiring a cross-ice feed to Kreider, who wristed the puck past Anderson.

Jason Spezza scored with 39 seconds left in the third period to trim the deficit to one at 3-2, but the Senators couldn't net the equalizer.

Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson returned after a three-game absence with a mild concussion.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
New York's Brian Boyle sat out the contest with a concussion, which he sustained on a hit from Neil in Game 5. Boyle had scored a goal in each of the first three games of the series. ...
