RED WINGS 3, BLUES 2 (SO): Johan Franzen had a pair of goals and Todd Bertuzzi netted the game winner in the third round of the shootout as Detroit snapped an eight-game losing skid on the road to leapfrog the Nashville Predators and move into fourth in the Western Conference standings.

Bertuzzi scored the lone goal of the shootout with a nifty backhand move that fooled Jimmy Howard to hand the Blues a third straight loss. Howard stopped all three St. Louis shooters and made 27 saves for his 35th win.

After the Blues built a 2-0 lead on goals from David Perron and Andy McDonald, Franzen ended Brian Elliott’s shutout streak at 240:28 with a snapshot and cut the deficit to 2-1 at 13:55 of the third period.

Franzen struck again when he fired a wrister into the top corner after he took a cross-ice feed from Pavel Datsyuk. Franzen’s 28th marker knotted the contest at 2-2 with less than four minutes to play in the frame. Datsyuk assisted on both of Franzen’s tallies for a two-point performance.

Blues forward Ryan Reaves unleashed a vicious hit from behind on Red Wings defenseman Brad Stuart at 6:01 of the third period. Stuart was stapled face-first into the end boards and was slow to get up. Reaves was issued a major penalty for boarding and received a game misconduct.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Detroit defenseman Kyle Quincey served a one-game suspension for an elbow he delivered Sunday to Florida's Tomas Kopecky. … Perron scored for the fourth time in as many games. … The Blues drop two in a row on home ice for the first time since March 29-April 1, 2011.
