Recap

CANUCKS 5, DUCKS 4 (SO): Defenseman Alex Edler scored the decisive goal in the shootout as Vancouver completed a perfect five-game homestand with its seventh consecutive victory.

Alex Burrows tallied twice in regulation, Chris Higgins and Maxim Lapierre also scored and Cory Schneider stopped all nine shots he faced in relief for the Canucks, who remained tied with the New York Rangers in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

Burrows lifted a backhander over a sprawled Jonas Hiller in the first round of the shootout and Edler beat the goaltender to the stick side on Vancouver's second attempt.

After Schneider denied Saku Koivu, Lapierre clinched the Canucks' sixth straight home win with a backhander.

Rod Pelley snapped a 2-2 tie less than 2 1/2 minutes into the second period with his first goal in 42 games and rookie Devante Smith-Pelly gave Anaheim a two-goal advantage less than five minutes later. The tally ended the night for Roberto Luongo, who allowed four goals on 15 shots.

Burrows completed his third two-goal performance of the season midway through the session to get Vancouver within one. Lapierre knotted the contest – and extended his goal-scoring streak to three games – with 1:27 remaining as his slap shot from the right point deflected off Ducks defenseman Sheldon Brookbank's glove and past Hiller.

Corey Perry recorded a goal and an assist, captain Ryan Getzlaf also scored and Bobby Ryan set up three scores for the Ducks, who have lost seven of eight on the road.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Getzlaf's goal, which ended his 14-game drought, was just his second in 33 contests. It also was his first tally on the road since Oct. 27 at Minnesota. ... Anaheim's Teemu Selanne notched an assist for his 1,406th career point. He trails Dale Hawerchuk by three points for 18th place on the all-time list. ... The Canucks are 8-1-1 in their last 10 contests. ... Vancouver's David Booth was stopped on a penalty shot just over 3 1/2 minutes into the game after being tripped on a breakaway. ... Anaheim registered just one shot on goal in the third period.
