Recap
BLACKHAWKS 4, BLUES 3 (SO): Dave Bolland scored in the fourth round of the shootout and Corey Crawford denied all attempts as Chicago inched closer to securing a postseason berth and prevented St. Louis from securing the Central Division title.
Andrew Brunette and Patrick Sharp scored nearly 4 1/2 minutes apart early in the third period and Bryan Bickell also tallied for the Blackhawks, who failed to clinch a playoff spot after Phoenix blanked San Jose 2-0 later Thursday.
David Perron scored with 1:32 remaining in regulation and Alex Steen and veteran Jason Arnott also tallied for the Blues, who needed to win in either regulation or overtime to secure the division crown.
After Crawford and Jaroslav Halak denied the first three attempts in the shootout, Bolland skated in slowly before beating the Blues netminder. Crawford, who finished with 17 saves, denied Patrik Berglund to preserve the victory.
After Chicago pushed ahead for a 3-1 lead, Arnott trimmed the deficit back to one after his second effort beat Crawford on the doorstep. Perron then tied the game after deflecting defenseman Kris Russell's point shot for his 18th tally.
Brunette snapped a 1-1 tie at 4:15 of the third period by cleaning up a loose puck and wristing a shot through traffic. Sharp added his team-leading 31st goal just 4:25 later by converting a 2-on-none advantage with Viktor Stalberg.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Halak finished with 37 saves. ... Chicago ended St. Louis' shutout streak at 201 minutes, 32 seconds when Bickell scored with 9:22 remaining in the first period. The Blackhawks won four of the six meetings with the Blues this season. ... Chicago posted its first win in three contests without stud defenseman Duncan Keith, who is serving a five-game suspension for elbowing Vancouver's Daniel Sedin in the head on March 21.
