SABRES 4, RANGERS 1: Drew Stafford tallied twice - including midway through the second period to snap a tie - and Ryan Miller turned aside 26 shots as visiting Buffalo pulled into a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings by topping New York.
Tyler Ennis collected a goal and two assists and rookie Travis Turnbull netted his first career NHL goal for the Sabres, who have won three in a row and collected points in 16 of their last 18 games (12-2-4). Buffalo is tied with Washington, which dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Winnipeg on Friday.

Brian Boyle netted his seventh goal and rookie defenseman Tim Erixon recorded his first NHL point for the Rangers, who failed to pull into a tie with idle St. Louis in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. New York remained one point ahead of Pittsburgh, which has one game in hand on the Rangers.

With the game tied at 1-1, Stafford made the Rangers pay after John Mitchell overskated the puck in the offensive end. Stafford skated up the right wing on a 3-on-1 advantage and wristed a shot from the faceoff circle past the glove of All-Star Henrik Lundqvist.

Ennis provided insurance with exactly six minutes remaining in the third period after converting a 2-on-1 rush for his fifth goal and 11th point in seven contests.

Stafford capped the scoring by converting a 3-on-1 rush with his 17th goal and fourth in five games.

Playing in his second NHL contest, Turnbull opened the scoring as he was getting checked behind the net. Alertly, he wristed the puck off Mitchell's skate and past Lundqvist at 3:14 of the second period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York forward Mats Zuccarello suffered a fractured wrist while blocking a shot from Buffalo defenseman Jordan Leopold in the first period. Zuccarello, who will be sidelined indefinitely, has collected two goals and an assist since being recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League. ... Buffalo salvaged the final game of the season series.
