Recap

WILD 3, COYOTES 2 (SO): Dany Heatley scored in the fifth round of the shootout as Minnesota snapped its latest slide at five games and handed stumbling Phoenix its fifth straight defeat.

Matt Hackett made 15 saves in relief of Josh Harding and Kyle Brodziak scored his 17th goal for the Wild, who had been outscored 15-1 in their previous three games.

The Coyotes remain in seventh place in the Western Conference as the three teams following closely - San Jose, Los Angeles and Colorado - each lost on Thursday.

After Shane Doan and Devin Setoguchi traded goals in the fourth round of the shootout, Hackett was able to save Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s attempt to begin round five. Heatley was up next for Minnesota and came in straight before switching to the backhand and slipping it past Jason LaBarbera’s pad.

The Wild doubled their goal total from the previous three games in a span of 58 seconds in the first period. Brodziak’s redirect made it 1-0 at the 4:06 mark and Steve Kampfer scored his first goal shortly thereafter for a two-goal cushion.

The Coyotes tied it up in a span of 1:05 in the third, with Raffi Torres and Lauri Korpikoski beating Hackett.
