STARS 4, SHARKS 3 (SO): Tomas Vincour notched the tying goal with 75 seconds left in regulation and scored the only goal in the shootout to lift surging Dallas to its fourth consecutive win.

Vincour flicked a backhander past Antti Niemi in the fifth round of the shootout before Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen stopped Logan Couture as Dallas sent the Sharks to their fourth consecutive loss and ended a five-game losing streak against San Jose.

Michael Ryder and Jamie Benn also scored and Lehtonen made 45 saves for Dallas, which improved to 8-0-1 in its last nine games and beat the Sharks for the first time in four meetings this season.

Lehtonen, facing San Jose for the first time this season, also stopped all five shots in the shootout to move to 6-0-1 in his last seven.

Torrey Mitchell, Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski scored and Joe Thornton had three assists for San Jose, which claimed sole possession of eighth place in the Western Conference when Los Angeles and Colorado lost.

Ryder staked the Stars to a 1-0 lead at 12:16 of the second period, splitting San Jose's defense and slipping a shot past Niemi.

It was Ryder's sixth goal during an eight-game points streak and gave Dallas its first lead this season over San Jose, which had outscored the Sharks 14-5 in three previous meetings.

Smith knotted it with only two seconds left in the period on a brilliant individual effort. He moved in on net and, while fending off Alex Goligoski, lifted a backhander past Lehtonen.

The Sharks carried the momentum into the third and went ahead at the 25-second mark on Marleau's 27th goal.

Benn answered six minutes later - his fourth goal in six games since returning from injury - to tie it at 2-2.

San Jose forged ahead again when Pavelski collected a rebound in front of the net and stuffed it past Lehtonen with 3:32 left in regulation, but the Stars got the tying tally from Vincour to force overtime.

The goal was initially waved off, but a video replay showed the puck had barely trickled over the goal line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ryder needs one goal for his third career 30-goal season and first since the 2006-07 season with Montreal. He has points in 14 of his last 15 games. Benn reached 20 goals for the third consecutive season. ... Mitchell netted his second goal in three games following a 19-game goalless drought. ... Sharks center Tommy Wingels was shaken up in the third period after he was slammed into the boards by Mark Fistric. ... Thornton's three assists gave him 56 points in 53 career games against Dallas.
