Recap
ISLANDERS 3, BRUINS 2: John Tavares' goal with 4:39 left in the third period lifted New York past Boston, which lost starting netminder Tuukka Rask to a suspected leg injury.
Tavares, who came into the afternoon with just three goals in his last 15 games, tipped home a Matt Moulson shot past Boston netminder Tim Thomas for his eighth game-winner of the campaign.
Moulson and Tavares both enjoyed multi-point efforts as the Isles ended a three-game skid.
The Bruins opened the scoring at 15:10 of the opening period. With Josh Bailey in the box for slashing, a Joe Corvo backdoor pass eventually made its way to Milan Lucic, who fired a shot past Islanders netminder Evgeni Nabokov.
Bailey atoned for his penalty less than 2 1/2 minutes later, jousting home a cross-ice pass from Frans Nielsen for his fourth goal in the last three games.
A short time after Nabokov kept the score tied with a sensational left pad save on a David Krejci shot, the Bruins watched Rask go down for a save attempt before immediately crumpling to the ice. He was attended to by the team trainer and helped off by a pair of teammates.
The Islanders took immediate advantage of Rask's departure, as Moulson tucked the puck past Thomas at 15:35 of the middle frame with New York enjoying a man advantage.
Boston drew even at 7:29, as Tyler Seguin gathered a long pass from Zdeno Chara in the slot and ripped a shot past Nabokov. It was Seguin's second goal in as many games after the 20-year-old had gone the previous 10 without scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Nabokov made 32 saves while allowing fewer than three goals for just the second time in seven games. ... Nielsen added a pair of assists in the victory, his first multi-point effort since Feb. 4. ... The win was just the second for New York in its last eight encounters with Boston.
