FLYERS 6, ISLANDERS 3: Rookie Matt Read collected two goals and an assist and All-Star Scott Hartnell netted his career-high 31st goal of the season as host Philadelphia moved into fifth place in the Eastern Conference by doubling up New York.

Jaromir Jagr and defenseman Andrej Meszaros both scored and set up a goal and All-Star Claude Giroux notched three assists for the Flyers, who passed idle Ottawa in the standings after defeating the Islanders for the 27th time in their last 31 meetings.

All was not rosy for Philadelphia, which saw James van Riemsdyk leave the game in the first period with a broken bone in his left foot. Van Riemsdyk was playing in just his sixth game since returning from a concussion.

After Josh Bailey netted his second of the contest to tie the game at 2-2, Jagr snapped the deadlock midway through the second period after he skated around the net and backhanded the puck past Evgeni Nabokov. Jagr's tally was his 17th of the season.

Read doubled the advantage just 39 seconds later converting Wayne Simmonds' centering feed. With his 18th goal of the season, Read pulled into a tie with Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog for the NHL rookie lead.

Flyers D Kimmo Timonen collected his 500th career point with an assist on Jagr's goal. ... Islanders rookie C Casey Cizikas recorded his first points of his NHL career with a pair of assists. ... Philadelphia surrendered the first goal of the contest for the ninth straight game when Bailey opened the scoring 1:35 into the first period. ... The Flyers lead the season series 3-2.
