AVALANCHE 4, RED WINGS 3: Rookie Gabriel Landeskog scored twice and newcomer Steve Downie notched a goal and two assists as Colorado held on to hand Detroit its first regulation loss at home since Nov. 3.

David Jones also tallied, Ryan O'Reilly collected three assists and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 28 saves for the Avalanche, who have won four of five.

Colorado built a 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest.

Landeskog extended his points streak to five games at 1:35 when he buried a loose puck in the slot after an attempted pass by Downie hit a defender's skate. Jones doubled the advantage while shorthanded 67 seconds later, beating All-Star Jimmy Howard from alone in the slot following a turnover by Detroit defenseman Kyle Quincey.

Landeskog completed his second career two-goal performance in the second period by converting a pass from O'Reilly. It was fifth tally in as many games for the 19-year-old Swede, who has scored 14 of his 18 goals on the road.

Jiri Hudler got the Red Wings on the board with a power-play goal 44 seconds into the third, but Downie capped his three-point effort midway through the session when he took a cross-slot pass from Ryan Wilson and scored from alone at the left side of the crease to make it 4-1.

Hudler and Valtteri Filppula tallied 91 seconds apart later in the period to get Detroit within one, but the Red Wings were unable to get the equalizer.

Howard stopped 23 shots for Detroit, which has lost three straight (0-2-1) since All-Star Pavel Datsyuk underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Detroit lost defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to an upper-body injury in the second period. ... Hudler has registered four of his eight career two-goal performances this season. He has reached the 20-goal plateau for the second time in his career and is three shy of matching his career high set in 2008-09. ... Downie has notched five points in three games since being acquired from Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
