CANUCKS 4, RED WINGS 3 (SO): Daniel Sedin scored the game-tying goal late in regulation and Alex Burrows had the lone shootout goal as Vancouver ended Detroit's NHL-record 23-game home winning streak.

After the first five shooters misfired, Burrows emerged as the hero in a pivotal matchup between the top two teams in the Western Conference. The truculent forward went from forehand to backhand before lifting a high shot past Detroit netminder Jimmy Howard.

Burrows poked some fun at the Joe Louis Arena crowd afterward, pretending to break his stick over his knee in celebration.

The loss was the first for the Red Wings in their own building since a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames back on Nov. 3.

With the Vancouver net empty and the Canucks pressing for the equalizer, Sedin silenced the Joe Louis Arena crowd with a shot from the high slot on a feed from his brother Henrik that beat Howard up high with 15.4 seconds left in regulation.

Cody Hodgson had the other regulation tally for the Canucks, banking a shot off the skate of Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall to tie the game at 2-2 with 6:36 remaining in the third after the Wings had jumped ahead earlier in the period.

Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Kyle Quincey, who was re-acquired by Detroit in a three-team trade with the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning earlier in the week, scored in regulation for the Red Wings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Detroit fell to 29-8-2 when scoring the game's first goal while Vancouver won for just the sixth time in 21 games when trailing first. ... Detroit outscored opponents 92-34 during its incredible home run. ... Nine of the Canucks' last 18 games have been decided in a shootout. Vancouver is 6-3 in those contests.
