RANGERS 3, BLUE JACKETS 2 (OT): Derek Stepan scored 22 seconds into overtime as host New York avoided its first losing streak since mid-December by topping Columbus.
Brad Richards and Artem Anisimov also tallied, defenseman Michael Del Zotto notched two assists and All-Star Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves for the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers, who have won seven of nine overall and five of seven at home.
New York, which fell at home to Chicago on Thursday, has not lost consecutive games since Dec. 13-15.
Marian Gaborik got to a loose puck above the left faceoff circle and dished it to Del Zotto. From the bottom of the right circle, Del Zotto passed across the slot to Stepan, who fired the puck into a vacant net from the left side for his 12th goal of the season.
New York grabbed a 2-1 lead with 6:47 to play in the second, when Anisimov raced to a loose puck at the left side of the crease and fired it past Mason. The goal held up until Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash beat Lundqvist with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle with 93 seconds left in the third.
Mason stopped 32 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of six. Columbus has gone 14 consecutive contests with three goals or fewer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Columbus had won four of six and six of nine against New York. ... Lundqvist has allowed more than three goals only three times in 43 starts this season and just once in his last 35 outings. He has yielded two tallies or less in 10 of his last 11 games. ... The Blue Jackets have lost 61 of their last 81 contests. ... Coach John Tortorella passed Herb Brooks for sixth place on the Rangers' all-time wins list with his 132nd victory.
