Recap
James Neal scored the decisive goal in the shootout and Evgeni Malkin extended his goal-scoring streak to three games in regulation as the Pittsburgh Penguins halted a four-game skid at home with a 2-1 triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves for Pittsburgh, which has won three in a row overall following a six-game losing streak.
Malkin and Jussi Jokinen each scored in the first round of the shootout while Cam Ward and Fleury made stops in the second round.
Neal beat Ward to the stick side on the Penguins' third chance, and Eric Staal was denied by Fleury on the Hurricanes' final opportunity, clinching the win for Pittsburgh.
Carolina jumped in front just 2:11 into the game as defenseman Jamie McBain beat Fleury with a wrist shot from the top of the slot.
The Penguins pulled even late in the opening period when Malkin scored his fifth goal in three games.
Staal was unable to control a bouncing puck in the right faceoff circle after Malkin's initial shot attempt was blocked. Malkin gained possession and went to the net untouched before firing the puck just under the crossbar for his 22nd of the season.
Ward stopped 40 shots for Carolina, which has lost eight of nine on the road and six of nine overall.
