Defenseman Jay Harrison scored to snap a tie with 1:30 remaining in the third period as the Carolina Hurricanes collected their third victory in as many games this season against the Boston Bruins with a 4-2 home triumph on Saturday.
Rookie blue-liner Justin Faulk and Patrick Dwyer also tallied and Cam Ward finished with 33 saves for Carolina, which owns a 3-2 victory over Boston on Oct. 12 and a 4-1 victory six days later.
After Faulk leveled the contest with 6:02 remaining in the third period, Harrison gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the contest just over 4 1/2 minutes later. Harrison's wrist shot from just inside the blue line deflected off the leg of Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg in the high slot and past All-Star Tim Thomas for his seventh goal of the season.
Captain Eric Staal capped the three-goal third period with an empty-net tally for Carolina, which has won two in a row overall and moved past the idle Tampa Bay Lightning to exit the basement in the Southeast Division.
Milan Lucic and Patrice Bergeron scored and David Krejci had an assist to extend his career-best point streak to 11 games for Boston, which suffered just its sixth loss in 31 games.
Lucic gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 1:21 of the third period after he collected a loose puck in the right faceoff circle and sized up his shot before picking the top corner.
