Todd Bertuzzi collected his first multi-goal game of the season by scoring 4:21 into overtime as the Detroit Red Wings matched a franchise record with their 14th consecutive home victory, edging the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Fellow veteran Tomas Holmstrom also tallied and All-Star Pavel Datsyuk and defenseman Ian White notched a pair of assists apiece. With Saturday's victory at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings tied the franchise mark set in 1965.
All-Star Jimmy Howard turned aside 25 shots, but was helpless after former Red Wing Marian Hossa's shot attempt caromed off the skate of Detroit captain Nicklas Lidstrom and into the net with 52 seconds left in the third to tie the game.
In overtime, Valtteri Filppula's sharp-angle shot was denied by Corey Crawford, but Bertuzzi batted the puck out of mid-air and beat the netminder for his eighth goal of the season.
The Red Wings rode a 21-4 edge in shots during the first period to claim a 2-0 advantage.
After Holmstrom opened the scoring with 7:04 left in the session, Bertuzzi doubled the advantage just 3:14 later after settling a stretch pass from Datsyuk before skating in and backhanding the puck past Crawford.
Howard's only miscues on Saturday came when he attempted to play the puck. After emerging unscathed on one such occurrence during the first period, Howard was not as lucky late in the second. The puck caromed off the heel of Howard's stick and settled right in front of the net for rookie Aaron Shaw, who scored the easiest of his three career goals.
