Recap
James van Riemsdyk scored two goals, including the game-winner with 33 seconds left to play, as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 on Thursday.
Van Riemsdyk snapped home the winner on the power play with Patrick Kane in the penalty box for high-sticking Claude Giroux.
Brent Seabrook and Kane scored 25 seconds apart in the third period to erase a 4-2 Philadelphia lead. Seabrook’s third of the season came just after the Blackhawks killed off a double minor to Patrick Sharp for high sticking. Kane buried his 10th of the season from the high slot.
After the Blackhawks grabbed a 2-1 lead on Andrew Shaw’s first NHL goal at 7:37 of the second period, the Flyers erupted for three straight goals to close out the frame.
Scott Hartnell tallied at 7:54 when he batted a Giroux pass out of mid-air for his 18th of the season. Rookie Harry Zolnierczyk then tapped in his third of the campaign, a rebound of a Sean Couturier shot at 11:51. Van Riemsdyk scored his 10th of the season 23 seconds later.
Jakub Voracek tallied for the Flyers with 51 seconds remaining in the opening period. It was his sixth goal of the season and first in nine games.
Chicago’s Jimmy Hayes scored 3:01 into the first period, redirecting his second NHL goal off Jamal Mayers point shot.
