Steven Stamkos scored his league-leading 20th goal and added an assist as the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning recorded a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Stamkos hammered home a one-timer from below the left circle after a nifty pass from Vincent Lecavalier 10:05 into the second period for a 3-1 lead.
Captain Rick Nash scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season to cut Tampa Bay’s lead to one with 7:46 remaining in the second, but Lightning goalie Mathieu Garon made 26 saves to preserve the victory. Garon spent the last two seasons with Columbus and is now 7-1-2 against his former team.
Tampa Bay won its second straight game for the first time since Nov. 26.
With first-period goals from Blair Jones and defenseman Eric Brewer, the Lightning gained their first two-goal lead on the road since the season opener in Carolina. It was Brewer’s first of the season and Jones’ second in three games.
Lightning forward Nate Thompson left the game in the first period with a lower-body injury and did not return.
Vinny Prospal, who played 468 of his 1,010 games with Tampa Bay, had a pair of assists for Columbus. He was honored before the game for playing his 1,000th NHL game.
