Recap
Shane Doan scored the game-winner with 8:15 left in the third period as the Phoenix Coyotes halted a three-game losing skid with a 4-2 triumph over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
After the Oilers rallied back from a pair of one-goal deficits, Phoenix went ahead for good on a great individual effort from Doan. After Edmonton turned the puck over in its own zone, Doan corralled the puck in the corner before stickhandling in front and sliding a shot past Edmonton netminder Devan Dubnyk.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson made it a two-goal game less than three minutes later, and the Coyotes held on from there for just their third win in the last eight games.
The Coyotes carried the play in the opening 20 minutes and were rewarded with 4:22 remaining in the period. Lauri Korpikoski fanned on his initial shot but followed the puck to the front of the net, where he jabbed it past Dubnyk.
Edmonton countered on a power play with just under four minutes left in the second. Taylor Hall, in his first game back after missing the previous seven with a shoulder injury, gathered a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins pass at the left side of the net and swept it through Phoenix netminder Mike Smith's pads.
The Coyotes went back ahead with 37 seconds left in the second period when Radim Vrbata wristed a shot past Dubnyk after Oilers forward Eric Belanger failed to clear the zone.
Hall's second of the night on a slick feed from Ryan Smyth made it 2-2 at the 6:11 mark of the third period. Hall came into the night with just one goal in his first 12 road games.
