Petteri Nokelainen scored the game-winning goal with 6:15 to play and the Montreal Canadiens snapped a four-game home losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Andrei Kostitsyn, Mathieu Darche, Erik Cole and Hal Gill also scored for the Canadiens, who won for only the fifth time on their home ice and beat New York for the first time in the last four meetings.

Nokelainen's goal, his second of the season, blunted a comeback by the Islanders, who got third-period goals from Josh Bailey and John Tavares to erase a two-goal deficit.

Carey Price turned aside 29 shots and Nokelainen also had an assist, allowing him to match his season point total through the first 23 games.

Red-hot Matt Moulson staked the Islanders to a 1-0 lead with his 15th goal of the season and ninth in eight games at 7:50 of the first period.

Montreal needed only 85 seconds to pull even when Kostitsyn outhustled New York's defense and slipped a shot past Al Montoya.
