Recap
Jamie McBain continued his hot play with a man-advantage tally as the Carolina Hurricanes used a three-goal second-period outburst to defeat the host Edmonton Oilers 5-3 Wednesday, halting a seven-game losing skid.
McBain's fourth goal in the past three games helped the Hurricanes earn their first victory in five tries under new head coach Kirk Muller. It was just the fourth win in 14 road games for Carolina so far this season.
McBain gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead 4:36 into the second period,
wiring a wrist shot from the top of the left circle over Devan Dubnyk's right
shoulder.
Patrick Dwyer added his
fourth of the season at 11:47 to make it a two-goal advantage, and Chad
LaRose added a shorthanded tally to extend the lead at 15:41.
Tuomo Ruutu and Jeff Skinner had the other Carolina goals.
Eric Belanger, Ben Eager and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins countered for the Oilers, who fell to 1-4-1 in their last six games.
